The first step was to illustrate by hand the many rings of a tree. I drew several of these trying to balance the weight of the shot being careful to not make one side more heavy then the other.
Next I photographed the shot and brought it into AI, and manually traced each line converting it to a vector graphic to scale and manipulate.
I then added the graphic elements such as the author and quotation making sure the kerning and spacing was correct.
Then I added a textured background element to bring a natural feel to the piece.
Once all the pieces were in place I outputed the file on a thick 260gsm archival semi-matte paper using CromaLife 100 Archival ink.
